Andrin Huber (SUI) won the men's decathlon at the European U23 Championships in Bergen in July with 8188 points, 147 above his own PB series and a personal best. He took the lead in the eighth event, from an athlete who did not finish the competition.

Antoine Ferranti (FRA) started the competition twenty-fourth after the 100m and finished third. He was fifth by the high jump, where 2.09 matched his series exactly, and seventh at the day break, then took 51 points out of his series in the discus and moved to third in the javelin. Two large gains came from further down: Jonathan Hertwig-Ødegaard (NOR) took fourth 338 points above his series, the largest of the competition, and Pol Ferrer (ESP) fifth 181 above his, both personal bests, with Adam Havlíček (CZE) seventh 107 above his.
