Savola takes the Finnish decathlon title in Jyväskylä

Tarmo Savola won the men's decathlon at Kalevan Kisat in Jyväskylä on 25 July with 7655 points, 219 ahead of Aleksi Savolainen. Twelve athletes are in the data, ten finished.

Savola led after every event. He won five of the ten: 11.01 in the 100m, 7.33 in the long jump, 1.96 in the high jump, 48.63 in the 400m and 14.75 in the hurdles, the best marks in the field in each. Day one closed at 4076, 178 up on Joni Heikkinen. The runner-up changed in the pole vault, where Savolainen cleared 4.90 for 880 points and moved past Heikkinen into second. Savola started the 1500m 223 clear and finished it 219 clear, seventh in the last event with 4:47.03.

Third place was decided in the javelin. Ville Toivonen threw 67.25, the longest of the competition, and came out of the event third; his 4:42.69 held the position by 43 points over Heikkinen. Heikkinen had been second through seven events, then took 4.00 in the pole vault and 51.23 in the javelin and dropped to fourth, though he ran the fastest 1500m of the field, 4:26.99. Olavi Halonen climbed from ninth after day one to fifth and Jere Liskojärvi from tenth to sixth. Leo Rautiainen and Aleksi Hilska did not finish.

Two men beat theirs. Toivonen's 7401 is one point above the 7400 he scored at Lahti in July 2023, and Halonen's 7111 is 409 above the 6702 he had scored at Espoo in August 2025, the largest gain in the field. On our Finnish all-time list Toivonen's score now stands 53rd and Halonen's 93rd; Savola's own best of 7807, from Espoo in August 2025, is 16th.
